The Shameful Age

The Shameful Age

Oh, how incredibly shameful it is to exist in this age of forgetfulness.  In what should be the age of progression, peace, and remembrance, we exist in a time of greed, exploitation, and distraction.  There is no hope.  When once we were at the brink of enlightenment, an age of discovery and respect, we now find ourselves at the bottom of a deep, cold pit.  A speck of light remains for those who peer to the sky, a symbol of all that has been realized by those who also thought critically and challenged the petrified opinions of the main.  But that flicker of enlightenment is only seen by those who look hard enough, and will soon be nothing but a forgotten memory as this pit continues to grow ever deeper.  As we continue to distract ourselves with material pleasures at an expense unbeknownst to most, a sea of knowledge filled with the thoughts and realizations of philosophers, scientists, and poets of the past is disappearing.  Evaporating, only to never return and quench our parched minds.

It is with great disappointment that I write this letter, for I too once had faith in this crooked population.  But as I analyze this path we have taken in the dark, I see an unavoidable cliff.  Like a herd of cows, we are being led to slaughter by the money hungry politicians that run this world.  What separates us from the common bovine however is that we know where we are headed and we are more than happy to oblige as long as we all have the latest iPhone in our favorite color and a matching pair of Nikes for the hike.

How shameful it is to be part of such an irresponsible society.  How upsetting it is to recognize these flawed trends in what should be the most sophisticated species on this planet.  In more than 5,000 years of advanced civilization, we have yet to overcome our most primal issues.  We kill each other because we believe in different Gods, when in reality we are just too dumb to understand the natural behavior of Earth; We create hierarchal systems in everything we do to somehow make us feel more important than others; and most importantly, We forget the mistakes of the past.  Because we like war, we like poverty, and we hate each other.
