Shark Week

As I am on the edge of my seat 

eyes glued to the screen,

the Mako shark zips through the water 

with its sharp teeth and its ocean blue body.

I realize the true beauty of such a creature.

With its image stuck in my head,

the Mako will forever and always be

my favorite shark 

This is what shark week is all about.

The week long event that I wait every year for.

8 full days full of nothing but sharks.

Each episode has its own adventure. 

Diving deeper into the crazy features sharks have.

All you see is sharks

and what they really are about.

Their life before our human eyes,

it's amazing to see.

It started in fifth grade,

little me scared of the ocean.

But that one day, 

when I accidently changed the channel,

that one day forever changed me.

I changed it to the Discovery channel,

and all I saw were sharks.

Sharks are beautiful creatures.

and shark week showed me that.

Shark week helped me overcome my great fear of the ocean.

Shark week showed me just what sharks are,

majestic, mysterious, misunderstood.

Now, I never miss a day.

I make sure to always tune in,

24/7. 

Miss it because of vacation?

Nope, it's recorded.

That’s what shark week has done to me.

This has shown me what is happening in the ocean.

The pollution, the climate change.

It has made me get out of my seat and do something.

It has inspired me to make a difference.

We have to help the people who are trying to fix this.

Organizations like 4Ocean or Dorsal,

who help to eliminate plastic pollution in the oceans

through donations and volunteer work.

This has inspired me to want to do more.

I decided I want to go more in depth into this problem,

by wanting to become a marine biologist.

I want to pay it forward.

I want to teach the world, show the world.

Show them what sharks really are,

teach them what sharks offer in the world,

what they bring to the table,

their importance in this world.

I want to save them.

I want to help eliminate plastic pollution,

global warming,

shark fin fishing.

Lastly, I want to be with them.

I want to swim with them,

dive with them,

study them,

be one with them.

Through my education and research,

the help of more people around the world,

through better educating people with what's going on,

we can resolve the problem,

the problem of pollution. 

One step at a time.
