SHATTER

I am walking up the stairs.

“Son pick up the towels you dropped”

“No, I don’t want to”

I continue up the stairs

“Son come back down”

“¿Porque?, I don’t want to”

He stands up

“Son! Come back down!”

My heart sinks

The hairs on my neck go up

I come down the stairs

I stand next to him while he sits

He spits on the floor

“Clean it”

“¿Porque?”

“Clean it!”

I get a towel

I get down on one knee

I look at the spit

I wipe it

He stands up

He leaves and comes back

A hammer is in his hand

I just stare as he walks

He gets a seashell, my seashell

He pummels it

He gets a Nemo toy

He shatters it

His arm moves up and down

Never question their authority

That is what I should have learned

Instead I am ignited

Always fight against authority
