Shattered
I'm pretending that it's okay, telling friends;
Just go away, really I'm fine.
But I know it's never worked before,
Though I've tried it every time.
And I'm done being the monster,
So for tonight, I'll save the day.
Although tomorrow was never
Certain anyway.
And they tell me to keep going,
Just say it'll be alright.
Because I've got so much to live for;
Family, friends, and lovers on my mind.
I'm not the hero, I'm the martyr
Understand that I am through.
I've died twice in a single night;
Don't bring me back for you.
I am broken, I'm unfixable,
I live like every day's my last.
Let me keep on running
Because my freedom's in the past.
I'm a splotch of ink on the azure sea;
Scarlet blood on virgin snow.
If I were part of a flock of doves
I'd be the only sorrow.
My heart is cold and frozen;
Lost to eternal sleep.
My mind: it fights to stop myself
From drowning in the deep.
My wrists are slashed a thousand times,
Now dark carnations grow.
There's a kind of ghastly beauty in
A battlefield of woe.
The world burns in anger while
Fear lies hallowed in my soul.
Cities dark and empty now;
The land barren and cold.
I'm shattered, broken,
Ripped open from inside.
Naught but fractured emptiness
It's time to say goodbye.
