Shattered Glass
Delicate Blue Dress,
Porcelain Painted Ponies,
White Ribbons play
with your pretty Golden Locks
A white laced umbrella fends off the rays of Apollo
Your pale face powdered with roses
My Love, You are my Dream
Your Father--his eyes,
so full of rage
The tangible anger he breaths
reeks death
The roses--for Mommy
arrive no more
The Vase on the table is barren and cold
Another’s is the bed he sleeps in now
His passion for her
is my pain
The guilt
and shame
and bitterness
and rage
Tears through my head like a tornado
Sickening
Nauseating
Destroying everything in its path
I see your little brown eyes
confused
alone
The diamond tears roll down your cheeks
Tucked away in your room
Waiting
for the rainbow after the rain
I fear there is no prism of color
No pot of gold
No magic
The Vase has shattered to the floor
and I--I am left to pick up the pieces
Praying
Praying you too won’t cut your feet
Yet like any broken glass,
it is only a matter of time--before
your small pale feet drip red rubies
The stench never fully dissipates
Darling, do you see the photograph?
Tucked away,
in the corner of the room
dusty and yellowed with age
When all of us were
full of ignorance
full of passion
full of hope
All of that seems worlds away,
Like the stories I used to tell you
My Love, you were my dream
My perfect miracle
But now your deep brown eyes bring me pain
You’re perfect golden locks
and porcelain face
cause me grief
My tears are not diamonds
I am shattered, like the Vase
A Hazard
You’ve given me everything,
I’ve given you nothing,
And it brings me great sorrow to think of it
My Love-I love you
But I cannot remain
as shattered glass
coaxing rubies from you
