This Shattered Ground
If you stepped into this place,
That seems full of harmony,
You'd never even imagine,
All the things these eyes did see.
A tale of love and hate,
Choices that changed our fate,
Forces that shook the ground at my feet,
Forces that turned anger into deceit,
Forces that never even realized,
That it only proved their self-defeat.
They say that all is fair in love and war,
But this story shows both, and let me say,
There were no plates cut clean, they only tore,
Shaking this ground, right to the very core.
And innocent they are, "not intended" is what they say
But if you look back, back into yesterday,
You would see that both their actions served as words;
hate was the message they always would relay.
And once the war had begun, it was obvious the end was near.
Minds were filled with anger, but even more so was there fear.
And still today I'm thankful that I'm yet to be insane,
Even after watching this disastrous hurricane.
But the worst of all the fears was the silence,
The eerie calm that came in between the violence.
For that was when the pain was close at heart,
And the thoughts were still fresh in mind,
But the fear that consumed us did play it's part,
And left me no words that I could find.
But though the aftershocks still shake us,
And keep us from standing tall.
I'm comforted by the simple fact;
There is nothing left to fall.
Yet though the forces have left us, new worlds to which they're bound,
And once again sweet harmony has found it's way back around,
I am left to see myself just barely standing,
In this world of pieces, and on this shattered ground.
