Shaven

“There’s no going back,” Mom said

With a stern look on her face.

“Once you do it once, you have to do it

Forever.”

I didn’t care.

I mentally prepared myself in my bedroom

As I laid out my light pink shorts

I would be wearing the next day

To Miss Harris’ class

Where Spencer sat next to me.

Maybe he would drop his pencil,

And he’d reach under his desk

And lightly brush against my thigh

And feel like the slick difference

Between his world and mine.
