She Died
Da doom. Da doom. Da doom. Da doom.
Steady was my the pace of my heart,
And then the phone rang.
Of course we knew it was only a matter of time,
Yet it still did not prepare my heart for the fall.
July 23rd, 2017 at 4:11 in the afternoon,
That was the day fear crept back into my bed.
Realization struck that one day we'd all fall,
But why does it seem that is the day we are needed most?
Too many smiles taken for granted,
And words that should have been exchanged--silence.
Why should anyone fear death?
We know that everyone will die--yet--
Yet we don't know when, or how, or even why.
We hope for one more day and hold on to the ones we love,
But have we ever stopped to think--
Maybe this isn't the end.
It isn't death that separates my soul from yours,
It isn't death that creeps in and steals your breath
in the middle of the night.
It is eternity.
The everlasting fear that one day she'll be upstairs and I--
I'll be stuck in the fire.
It's not that I feared losing her,
Because that is inevitable.
It's that I feared I would never see her again.
