She had always thought

I had always thought her a dancer

the way she worked her body

effortlessly and free

and I had always thought the tune she heard

was erratic and without a beat

wild and reckless

and I had always thought she was the lucky one

sauntering in her unruly circles

envious and desire

and I had always thought I knew her

she grinned and bore teeth

euphoric and eccentric

And I had always thought that I had seen the world be still

till she stopped dancing and let the song fall from her lips

And she had always thought she was worthless
