She should
She should be an alcoholic
She should be dead
She should be lost
She should be deranged
She should be crazy
She should be in an abusive relationship
She should be bulimic
She should be in poverty
She should be collecting welfare
She should be pregnant
She should be
But she is me
And she is more than what they said
They made their premonitions
Their bets
Their decisions
They did not just doubt her
They wished her unwell
They wanted her to be trapped up
Entranced by the spell
Of alcohol
Drugs
Sex
Procrastination
But she knew her origin
Was not her destination
So….she cried
She screamed
She worked
She tried her hardest
And when she thought she had hit her farthest
Point
And worked as hard as she could
Something happened that she didn’t expect would
Her work far exceeded others expectations
And so she found herself farther than what she thought would be her final destination
Its one thing to cross the finish line
Its another to cross and win another race at the same time
She realized that she had surpassed the expectations she had for herself
‘And there was no reason to hang her work up on a shelf
She had to keep going
She had to excel
So that the naysayers that resided inside of her head
Would once and for all finally be put to bed
