She sweeps across the ruins
She sweeps across the ruins of life
deading nature
rusting machinery
rotting corpses strung to
Nothing
Her skin Black as night
glowing
glistening
growing in power
afraid of
Nothing
once upon a time she was a queen
a queen of riches beyond materialistic things
a queen of riches of knowledge, love and freedom
a queen of riches that was striped of her and her people
she has come to reclaim her throne
watch in awe
she has come home
her power beyond what is comprehended by her once aggressors
they awe
in fright
in defeat
in jealousy
she sheds the pain that once held her down and back
she has fought many hundreds of years
of pain
of humiliation
of belittlement
watch out , revenge and retaliation is never of her intentions
“No” her spirit screams
Yet
knowledge , love , freedom
she will set her sisters and brothers and children free
at last
the goddess takes her throne
her knees blooded
her heart bruised
her pain on her sleeve
she is free at last , all to come after her is free
he falls to his knees
the fiery orange haired king is defeated
his ancestors scream out in defeat
his worshippers scream out in defeat
his slaves scream out in defeat
“You are foolish . You and your squad go back where you belong”
he screams in one last attempt of power
but
it is too late
his power is nothing but a joke to the queen
a
sick
cruel
humilating
joke at the expense of millions of queens and kings like herself
she ignores his protests and his shouts and his screams and his crooked fingers
she finally sits
in relaxation
in peace
in love
“Today and every day after for eternity we are free
rise my kings and queens
RISE I say
wake from your slumber
you are free
come before the sun
come and be free”
In the distance and beyond the eye can see the goddess’
ancestors stagger forward
from shadows
from graves
from poverty
they emerge with evergrowing strength
a song rings out as the millions join together
melodies
symphonies
orchestras
pour into the sky as the ancestors walk around
not over
their once suppressors
Tears fall from her eyes as the goddess’ ancestors come forward
“We were tired
we were lost
we were stepped over and on
but now
oh
but now
we are one”
Emmett Till comes forward dripping of Bayou water
Trayvon Martin comes forward dripping of judicial injustice
Sandra Bland comes forward dripping of systematic silence
“Come, you are free . You are loved now”
the goddess’ Black arms stretch in welcoming to all before her
”isn’t freedom glorious
isn’t freedom beautiful
isn’t freedom lovely
it is ours to taste now”
she sinks into her throne ,
“Rejoice , yes rejoice , forever
I will shield you
I will protect you
I will love you
you will never worry again”
She opens her eyes to the past present and future
Blurring into one beautiful sight
“it is beautiful my family
if only you could see the future we now have”
the goddess closes her eyes and fade away
her job is finally done
“do not forget our fight
do not forget our strength
do not forget”
she engraves into a mountain
the goddess now runs the earth
the fiery orange hair king is of no more
his reign of terror is over at last
he slinks in his tower
defeat he never admits
he lies to
his ancestors
his worshippers
his slaves
“Statistics and polls says I won
I always win
They will fall”
myth has it the goddess sits in the sky
she sees all
