She was there for me when she couldn't be there for herself
She was there to birth me,
She was there to hold me while she cried,
She was there when I said my first word,
She was there to catch me when I took my first steps,
She was there for my first day of school,
Why wasn't she there when I got home from a bad day at school?
Why was my momma laying on the couch sleeping?
Momma never slept,
Why was my older sister starting to take care of my brother and I?
Why did momma get mad and hit me?
Why is momma going to the hospital?
My older sister said "She's getting help, meme."
Why was this weird man taking care of us now?
This man seems nice, I'm gonna call him daddy.
One day my momma came home and she was well and happy.
She ran up to us and hugged us as we cried.
Why is mommy crying?
Is it okay for an old man to touch you?
I hate highschool, I need my mamma.
Momma told me I'm beautiful and capable of anything. I dont need to listen to the bullies.
First day of high school, Momma pulled me aside and told me I'm worth everything in the world.
Middle of the year, I got into drugs and was drinking a lot.
The old man was still touching me, Momma didn't know.
I wanted to tell her, but he told me she wouldn't believe me.
I didn't know how else to act, so I was getting into trouble a lot.
I was drunk and stole my moms car, she charged me.
She talked to me and said "meme, I dont understand why your doing this but please, you can tell me."
I told my mom, she believed me. She pulled me into a hug and told me she wouldn't let anyone hurt me again.
He got charged, more kids came forward about him doing things to them.
I was still hurting and getting in trouble.
I tried to end my life and I was put into placement for a year and a half.
I thought my mom was putting me to someone else.
My mom called every night.
I finally talked to my mom, decided I needed to get help.
I took the help and came home.
My mom and I didn't fight.
She told me everyday she loved me to the moon and back and she'd never give up on me.
She made me happy and I actually believed what she said.
She made me smile when I had nothing to smile for.
I graduated high school and the look in her eyes.
That proud look made me cry. I never thought I'd get here, but she made it happen.
I applied to college, she cried with me when I got accepted.
I moved in, she cried when she left, but I called every night.
I figured out college wasnt for me at the moment.
She let me come home with open arms. Said she wasn't disappionted and whatever made me happy, made her happy.
My mom has taught me to keep fighting and never give up.
And that whenever it seemed dark, there was always a light in the distance.
She taught me to achieve my goals and that I can get anywhere in life if I work for it.
She taught me to be kind and gentle. To be strong. To be an adult.
My mother has helped me through the roughest times in my life and she's there for my happiest moments.
I wouldn't be where I am today without my mom, and I wouldn't be the person I am without her.
The person who inspires me most and pushes me to be the best, holds me when I need to cry and moves me away even though she doesn't want me to go.
My mother.
