She's Gifted
She’s gifted they said
At parent teacher conferences-
The day that most of us dread
But
were some my most defining moments
Of the year because I wasn’t
An athlete or the schools mathematician..
I was a writer.
Creating these perfect worlds in my head &
Bringing them to life on paper
I mustve been
Gifted
At least that’s what they said
Writing about girls with cotton candy for hair &
Sour gumballs for eyes, caramel for skin
I
Was
Gifted
Only eight but I had the power to
Provoke
Emotion from deep within the heart
Of the eldest person in the room
If only I could get my words to flow like
Maya Angelou
But my rhymes were only equivalent to that of
Dr Seuss
So I practiced & I failed
These things that made me fall down
But when I wrote I rose
Rose higher than the trees
Touching clouds touching souls
I
Was
Gifted
Found out that not all poetry
Rhymed
Some of it most of it just
Flowed
My words began to dance off my pen
Even the most tragic of words look beautiful
When I put them on paper
I
Was
Gifted
Something I do for fun
Something I do for therapy
It is my safe haven & I
Never want to leave
Because my moms eyes leak
As I speak
The words that I put on paper
She said
You
Are
Gifted
And I am
Writing is my gift
The ultimate
From God
Just as he created the heavens and all of the earth
With my gift I create
Hope
Of life worth living
Dreams
of love worth experiencing
With this gift
I hope to not only touch my mother
But others
To leave a mark
Because I am gifted
A work of art.
