She's the only one I need
You’re three years old and there are monsters under your bed
She gets up every night and fights them away
You’re five and on your way to the first day of school
She’s right behind you, waving as the bus pulls away
You’re eight and you fall off your bike for the third time that day
She picks you back up, fixes your helmet, and you’re on your way again
You’re thirteen and you fail your first math test
She tells you it’s just one test and everything will be okay
You’re fifteen and realize you don’t love the reflection in the mirror
She tells you you’re perfect in every single way
You’re seventeen and your first love breaks your heart
She’s there to wipe all the tears away
You’re twenty two and renting your own place
She comes with food every other day
You’re twenty eight and scared to say yes
She tells you he loves you and deserves a second chance
You’re twenty nine and nervous as you’re walking down the aisle
She’s smiling in the front holding your father's hand
You’re thirty two and pregnant with your first child
She’s there in the delivery room telling you jokes to distract you from the pain
You deliver your first child and she can’t help but cry
For she is your mother and thirty two years ago that was her in your place
From a broken heart to broken bones she's there to take the pain away
What does one do without a mother to guide her?
How do you survive without her guidance?
You’re asking me what’s one thing I can’t live without?
Well now you know
