Shielded Heart

Shielded Heart

Lyria Broussard

She is strong, says the fake smile she attempts to

hide with a fake smile on her face. She is blunt, says the

million hearts murdered by her truthfulness. She is also

a mother, says the two children running wildly around

the house as she tries to figure out how to take care of

them. She is broken hearted, says the many thrown

tissues and torn papers.

A man came into her life, says the sudden mornings

of happiness and singing. She loved him, says the first

time she brought a man home to meet her children. She

was afraid, says the many times she worried if he was

the right man for her.She was loving, says her children

when asked the question.

There was a battle, says the corpse she use to call

"Dad."The battle was lost, says the sudden drain of

color from her once flushed cheeks. She thought she

was alone, says the emotional door that was shut and

held under lock and key.She found a way, says the long

nights of prayers and tears. This is my mom, says a

teenager finding her way with a strong woman to lead

her.
