Shine

I’m sick and tired of it all,

Trying to make everyone happy.

While I’m sitting in this cell,

Wallowing secretly in misery.

I stand up from the pool of my own tears,

The chains tethering me to the floor.

My eyes are starting to shine with determination,

As I start to realize I don’t want to take this anymore.

Yanking myself from these chains,

I throw them down in disgust.

As I look around at what I’ve done with myself,

Everything motionless and covered in dust.

Slowly, the fire in the furnace starts lighting,

Starting from a flicker, leading into an inferno.

Launching me from the dungeon,

To the top floor in one mighty blow.

I’m mad, I’m pissed, I’m ready to fight,

I know things aren’t alright, I’ve known for a while.

I’ve always tried to be fine with everything going on,

But the fact is everything is crazy, and I’m ready to shine.
