Shine

it's hard to love myself

when i was never taught how.

i can solve for y

but i'm uncomfortable unless i have makeup applied.

i know one of the original colonies was deleware.

but i hate that my hair

doesn't look like hers

i can make friends with others

but not with the girl in the mirror

because she doesn't like my exterior.

it's hard to love myself

when the voices say i don't fit in

and that i was born to stand out.

i hate being restrained by these thoughts -

but they have been ingrained in me -

so i think them a lot.

it's hard to love myself

when it's suffocating.

it's a game of always waiting

that some day i'll be able to shed this outside

that i abhor

but maybe the problem comes from

this broken girls' mind

that swears she's fine

but she just wants to be more

it's hard to love myself

when i pray to a god

that someday i'll free myself

from this mental prison

but he never replies

(if he even listens)

but i refuse to let myself

be hard to love

the moon doesn't compete with the sun

and maybe like self love

her job is never done

she may only shine when it's dark

but she definitly still leaves her mark
