Shine Girl
“Glow-up/Grow-up”
“Shine Girl”
By: Chloe Phillips
I wasn’t the same me that I am today.
The me that I was wouldn’t know what to say
Afraid of what they’d think, I held myself back.
Now I let myself shine even when they talk smack.
My heart is now open and eager to learn.
The world is just waiting for me to take my turn.
That shy little girl, hiding behind doubts, is no more.
A young woman has emerged to say “hear me roar!’’
Things that used to bother me and mattered so much;
Are now so far away and out of touch.
I see the things that are real and possible for me to do.
It’s no longer about the in-crowd or the who’s who.
For I know in my heart all along what I wanted to be.
And that great, wonderful, beautiful thing is me.
