Shining Son

Every day you would smile at us and say good morning.
Your smile as bright as the sun.
You were like a father teaching his son how to throw a football,
patient and persistent.

You never gave up on us or lost your temper.
You pushed us to our limits like pop fizzing over the brim of a cup.
Your voice was a clap of thunder, loud and strong.
Your laugh like the ocean waves crashing against a lighthouse,
echoing through the halls.
Your emotions as contagious as chicken pox.

You were the sweet melody of Mozart’s symphonies.
the notes of your blue trombone danced through the air.
It was a beautiful sound.
Now you are like the silence of a band,
waiting for the conductor’s down beat.

This poem is about my band director, who was killed about six months ago in a bike/car accident. With that being said I would say my favorite part of the poem would have to be the last line, due to the significance of it.
