Shoe

You’re a boat shoe

Stitches strung up and down each side, in neatness

Laces like anacondas wrapped around a tree

A never ending loop of infinity

Flowing with an elegant figure eight

Tying you, when the infinite loop breaks

I’m lying on the ground

A special dance between the laces

Must be performed to achieve infinity once more

Learned as a kid, by song

It has always been just you and me

From a toddler till now

Humming the tune still aloud

To tie you back together again

Keeping me always tied to the ground

Like the anchor imprinted on your tongue and heel

I’m putting you on and starting out on the right foot

Preparing to be sea worthy

Your leather reminds me of the chill of open water,

Cascading over waves, the way you cover my sock

Your polished leather scent floods my nostrils

The way rushing waters overtake a town

Removing me from the situation at hand

I become lost like a stowaway at sea

Swirling in circles, without a paddle

All distractions disappear, only open water and you

I then realize, I am lost in you, my shoe
