Shoebox of Sentiments
An old shoebox tucked away in a closet corner
Filled with remnants of my past
Letters I have saved and postcards I have kept
Blue and black ink now fading,
Clean white stationary now yellowing.
Telling tales of bittersweet romances and dear friends of long past
A few are happy
But most are regretful and sad
Where are you now?
The one I called my darling.
Where are you now?
The one I called my sweetie
All of these long ago sentiments
Still keep occupying my heart
The words so interchangeable
Yet the feelings remain fixed
Oh how I long to break irrevocably
From this anchor of sentimentality
Begin a new chapter and wipe immaculately clean
The tablet of my heart
But the shoebox remains in the closet
Still in the corner gathering dust
