"Shot in the Dark"

I’ve lived a life…

A life full of heartbreak,

Because I was too shy.

Insecurity got the best of me

But from all of this I’ve learned

My words are always heard

The last time I gave my heart away,

I gave it to a girl who never wanted it anyway.

Oh no…

A couple weeks later I was struck with dismay;

I found out we were moving away!

Here we go…

We were moving from town to town

I couldn’t slow down to stop spinning around,

So when I was slammed on the ground, I jumped to my feet,

And there you were staring back at me

Oh, I want you to see

Just exactly what I’m trying to say…

I’m giving you my heart,

Please don’t tear it apart!

I’m giving you the key,

So take good care of it for me!

I’ve fallen in love!

Oh help me! I can’t get up!

Give me a chance and you might just see

I could be your Prince Charming.

So if I give you my heart,

You’ve got to go easy on me.

From the first time to the last

I knew it was a shot in the dark

No matter what, they denied me the right

To ever hold somebody else’s heart

My heart may be shattered

But it can be fixed with a little ever after.

Any time I left my heart in the open

I came back to find it all broken up!

Again…

As time went by, it got harder to spit it out

And I would have to pick it up off the ground!

It hurts, but then…

If I had you at my back

My life wouldn’t be so black.

My life would be complete,

You are my missing link.

Oh, I want you to see

Exactly what you are to me.

I’m giving you my heart

And the key to guard.

Show me you care

And protect them from me;

I’m falling

And I think you know what I mean.

Hurry and save me,

Show me you see!

So, please take my heart…

Just take my heart…

Please, please take my heart…

And keep it for me.
