A Shot in the Light

Location

Bam, bam, snap. Pop!

Everything has just stopped, over.

Blood runs, screams abound, ears are ringing from that one sound.

That sound...what was it?

Despair, sadness, loneliness, depression.

No one thought it possible, no one thought it sane.

On this day, everyone knew his name.

He’s gone now and took more with him, all because no one knew what was hiding within.

A soul crying out, that’s what he was.

But no one heard him and it was a tragic end.

Those were kids with so much light, a small candle glowing bright.

If only someone had stoked the flame, instead of allowing it to be snuffed.

That is what I want.

I want to be able to see a person whose light may be withering, because I want to make it roar.

I want to be someone that can stop a tragedy and make it a lesson to learn from.

To help and ease hurt, that is what I want to be.

This is the path I choose to walk.

I will help those around me.

Those that think they can't be seen, I will show them they are real to me.

The people who are lost and crying out for help. I want to be the one to answer that call.

A shrink, a counselor, a therapist, whatever you want to name it.

That’s what I want to be, but really I’ll just be a friend.

A friend you talk to and confide in, one you can trust.

Tell me your secrets, they’ll stay locked in the vault.

That is what I want, to be that light in the dark for those drowning in it.

I will help those with their candle unlit because in life one can never quit.

I’ll be the coach, the friend, the counselor and all.

I will catch you before you fall.

This is my passion with my whole heart.

I want to help people before it’s too late to restart.
