A Shout Out to my Cats
To my four cats,
You have seen the worst and the best of me
And not for one second did you judge me for it.
In a world where nothing stays the same you are my constant.
It does not matter to you that I gasp for air as I laugh all by myself,
Or that I gasp for air because the world was just a little too much that day,
You still love me the same.
It doesn’t phase any of you that I am covered in snot and tears
Or that I have been laying on the bathroom floor for twenty minutes.
I have always counted on your soft purring to fill the dark silence
Or your soft nudges to snap me back into reality.
Your love is unconditional and it is the one thing I know I can always count on.
In months I will be gone,
Off into the big scary world.
Do not worry,
I will be back,
But you won’t have nearly as much trouble without me as I will without all of you.
Life will go on.
I will know half of you for the majority of your lifetime
and the other half for the entirety of it.
Knowing you won’t get to see me live out my entire life is scary
Because after you are all gone my worries won’t stop,
The world will continue to be a scary place,
And people will never be as constant as you four.
With love,
The girl who feeds you everyday
