Show and Tell

I love thinking about show and tell

Back when we learned to count and spell

And I think about how we could still do it now

The biggest difference would be how

Today we have a bunch of challenges that we don't speak of

We'd go up and stand there like "Hi uhh.."

So showing is a lot easier by far

Especially when everyone is trying to stand out like a star

I'm not going to lie I do that without a second thought

I'd be like all these medals mean I win a lot

All this records make me legendary

And I never give up even when I'm very weary

Of course all this would be for show

Because I can tell though

The real man behind the idol

Is just old, broken down and idle

I can tell them how I just want to stop and rest

But they'd just look at me like I'm possessed

I'd tell them I'm that I'm not who they think I am

But they wouldn't even stop and stand

Or hear all the stuff I got on my chest

That's making my feel like I have a cardiac arrest

People think they know my story

They see all the glory

And think wow that guy has it made

And he never gets played

But I wonder if instead

Of being fast and having a big head

What I would be

This is all I've ever known you see

And I make sure that it's all that most ever know

They never know of when I struggled when I was slow

Or how much work it takes to be this smart

And how it's not just something you can buy at Kmart

They don't know about how many times I've failed

And how much it has hurt when I've wailed

In agony and pain

Oh how they would look in disdain

Or how I'm not the cocky jerk

That they see put in no work

I'm the insecure kid who wants to curl up in a ball

And how much I wish I could stall

Everyone when they ask for a favor

Because I can never savor

The quiet and slow moments that I yearn for

Or maybe just some time alone so I can roar

Or how I'm more focused on the street

Than the person whose hands I meet

I'm just a lost soul looking for a break

Before I make a mistake and end up on a stake

Even though I'm not A1, I'm just normal

I didn't want to be the king at winter formal

I'm tired of spolight and expectations

Showing is better than telling it cements the foundations

of who they think I am
