Shush My Child
Slip your hand in mine, my child,
Smile like you want it to last awhile.
The voices stay, they do, my dear.
But maybe it’s to keep away the fear.
Laughter echoes off the halls,
And screams jump from off the walls,
And it’s drilling in your head.
Shush, my child, go to bed.
It’s driving you mad, I know.
But they carry in the wind and blow.
Through the school, and through your thoughts,
Silence child, and you won’t feel so lost.
They do replay, don’t they my darling,
They do have teeth and are quite snarling,
But it’s okay, they mean no harm.
Just close your eyes and hear their charm.
Tears slip down your cheeks my dear,
Salty and sweet they are so clear.
Smile as you sit and think.
Quiet my sweet, and take a drink.
They curl at your feet they do,
Looking and begging you,
To turn your eyes and offer your hand.
Shush my child, take a stand.
Just enough, not more than a tad.
Too much, too bad, too little, too sad.
Enough to keep the color and clear.
Shush my child I can hear your tempts in my ear.
It’s a dizzy I know, I hear,
But it’s for your own good I fear.
And yet you close your eyes and dream.
Shush my darling and swim in the memories.
