The Sign
Once there was a boy who was always waiting for a sign.
One night at camp as he looked to the stars I asked "What kind?"
He didn't really seem to care,
Except it couldn't come from anywhere.
He was waiting for a sign from above
Something from a pure heart and with the deepest of Love.
This was a Bible camp you see
And his sweet Grandma had sent him saying "try it for me".
As we sat around and read at night
I could tell something wasn't quite right.
He paced and he looked around
And jumped at the littlest sound.
Then the next day at games when we were all running around
And he was sitting there with a smile upside down
I decided to ask him what was wrong.
He said I just don't belong.
He said everyone here has something I lack
I want it but I'm scared and that's a fact.
Then I told him of the God of Love
And that one day he too could live with Him in Heaven above
He said that he was scared of messing up.
I told him that it was normal to feel stuck
And that this urge he felt inside was really great
For it shows you long for that new child inside that God wants to create.
With that we went our separate ways
But we smiled as we passed by through the last days.
At the end of the week as I waited for my bus
there came the same boy running, waving, and making a fuss.
He said "Wait, before you go
There's something that you must know.
He said I just wanted you to know I've been saved and I'll never be the same
I'll be better! So much better. So I thank you that came."
When I waved goodbye as the bus pulled away
I wondered if I was the sign he was waiting for that day
And I couldn't help but think how many people are in the same boat
Just waiting for someone to show them over the bridge that leads over the moat.
Now I know we can't save anyone but God can
And sometimes He uses us to work His land.
