The Sign of Sound

My course is set for an uncharted sea

with waves unkept and no one watching me,

is a line I wrote when I saw no path but didn't care

because I thought I could just flow through the breeze.

Though it took a while I finally found

that my path was really about creating sound

and what better way for a poem to help

than for my own poem to lead me aground.

While I am no longer sailing the vast sea

looking for some sign to show where I should be,

I finally realize where my goal lies,

and I really have to thank poetry.
