Signals

We are humans,

We are made out of

Bones and flesh.

We have this cool thing

Called a brain, you see.

This is where we have everything we know:

Our memories, feeling, and most inner thoughts.

We walk around with this brain,

Taking in and taking out.

We give signals to our brain in everything we do.

But with that very brain,

We have sent signals,

To our hands to kill,

To our mouth to throw punches,

To our ears to ignore,

To our eyes to close.

When we should have sent

Different signals

For our hands to help,

For our mouths to encourage,

For our ears to listen,

For our eyes to open.

What is stopping us from doing this?

Is it envy, jealousy, pride or is it a grudge?

Does this define us?

Is this who we are?

If we can use our brains to send signals to our bodies,

Why don’t we use our brains to respond

When the world is sending a signal to us

for help?
