Signs
Have you ever been sad? Or upset?
Felt a pain in your heart that absolutely ached?
Well, have you ever messaged someone,
And you didn't tell them that anything was wrong?
You gave small answers; yes, no
You told small fibs; I'm fine, just tired
You changed the way you normally spoke
Didn't you want them to notice?
Want them to say, I know something's wrong?
To give encouraging words to lift your spirit?
To put new life into your sadness?
But when they asked, you said, No, don't worry, I'm alright?
Why? I don't know
We want to be noticed,
But don't want to bother others
We're scared to share our pain
Let anyone else in
We think, It's fine, I can handle this myself
Even as we sit in a corner,
Sobbing hard and painfully into no one but ourselves
And we tell ourselves to stop
But when we're alone, all we have are our gloomy thoughts
The pessimistic ones
The ones that say that it's not gonna get better
That we should just deal with it
And another voice says it's right,
That you'll feel pain again soon,
So hurry up and get over this
That's why we hide
To not just fool our closest ones
But to fool ourselves
Because we're scared
We feel alone
Even if we're not
We hide our hearts from the world
We rely only on ourselves,
And sometimes, no one
Especially when you begin to doubt yourself
But even as we hide,
Something throws out signs to others
Because there's always that trapped little voice
Begging for someone to help
To relieve the pain
And the loneliness
And the hatred
And the grief
We WANT to be heard
But, it doesn't always happen
