Silence

Silence

All you could hear was silence

A silence so loud you could drop a pin on the floor and the noise would echo throughout the room

A silence that didn’t belong in the hallways of a high school

The laughter from funny jokes

The groans about teachers or homework

The constant chatter and conversation

All replaced with a silence that gave shivers to all those engrossed in it’s presence

PS- I’m really sorry

She said bye to her best friend and headed home for the night

She found old pictures of them as little kids and she smiled at all the memories they’ve shared together and she can’t wait for all the memories they will make

When she got to school the next day, the silence hit her like a slap to the face

And she searched and she searched, but she could not find her friend

PS- I’m really sorry

The girl was her favorite student

She was quiet in class, but the girl dazzled her with the poems she gave her every week

She was gonna ask her to write for the newspaper and help run it

When she got to school the next day, the girl didn’t show up to her classroom at their daily morning meeting time

PS- I’m really sorry

The girl in the back of his history class just spoke for the first time this semester

He glanced at her and smiled at her simple beauty

He stayed up half the night thinking about how he could start a conversation with her

When he walked into school the next day, her chair was empty

Where is she?

Why isn’t she here?

Is she absent today?

Have you seen her?

How come she isn’t answering her phone?

PS- I’m really sorry

The sunshine will still shine

The earth will keep turning

But when you are gone, their worlds will break…

their worlds will fall apart… their worlds will crumble…

Do not leave them in the silence, in the unbearable quiet

Because it does get better

It does get better

It does get better

PS- I'm really sorry
