Silence

Sitting close yet miles apart A world between us Each with so much to say Yet silence hangs with cloud of grey Forgotten strife thickens the air A pall of decay between us Each with words that won't come out And silence extends the doubt Awkwardness infuses the confined space A ticking clock marks the time Each with a thought of escape And silence becomes a distorted shape Swiftly the end draws closer A change in atmosphere Each prepares for the inevitable And silence lingers pleasurable
