Silent
Silent
as the first austere ship pervaded these white shores.
Silent
when the chains rattled so loudly with the storms.
Silent
as the lambs were torn away from their flock.
Silent
as the iron pen of slavery was locked.
Silent
as the chill of sweat and avarice took hold.
Silent
as the heat of sun and blood when the whip would unfold.
Silent
as the stars and stripes were burned at our nation’s hands.
Silent
as the hills were painted with the blood of angry men.
Silent
when the fields faded to industrious fumes.
Silent
when a world at war changed nothing of this doom.
Silent
have the years gone by, and still our hearts are sore.
The past is filled with silent men.
We will be silent no more.
