silent body

tangled up legs and laughs

were enough to sustain my growing

bones, enough to keep the foundation

strong.

strength is found in silence, or

so you told me, your body

brazen and bold, mine quiet

and subdued to you, the

sun.

my mom sang songs in

our badly aged kitchen, songs

that took me to far away places

and cradled me to sleep at

night.

but a song only last so

long. until the alto’s voice

croaks to the rumble of the earth,

and the soprano cracks beneath

the stage lights. until

you cracked my

lights.
