Silent Wren

Words won't come easily For a girl without a tongue Her mind is filled with poetry With lines she would have sung But her tongue is tied with fear Of angry words returned With reasons still unclear Her lesson has been learned The words she longs to speak Are dangerous at best Expected to be meek How can she tell the rest? A tongue removed-- forgotten A silence learned from youth A songless, silent wren Now writes her unsung truth
