Simple Happiness

This world is filled with those

Who do not know the joy that some people experience

From reading a well-written piece of fiction.

So much negative influence

That we hear,

That we watch,

That we are told,

And we too often forget the beauty and wonder

That stories can hold.

These accounts tell of times we wish we could have,

And of people we wish we could be.

I want to step into a fantastic world;

I want to get lost in Shakespearean verse;

I want to be led on an exciting journey.

So if I could change one thing, one simple thing

About this magnificent world we call our own,

There would be more people reading “fairy tales”

Just because they could. This way,

They can see

They can know

They can feel

That joy I experience with every turn of the page.
