The Simple Things

The summr sun beats on my back

Reminding me I'm at its mercy,

As the clouds quiety drift past

Without a care in the world.

How I envy them.

The verdant blades of grass

Wave at me like childhood friends.

The cool breeze moves the fallen hair framing my face,

Abating the sun's warmth if only for a short time

Nature's symphony is on repeat for me;

The crickets' chirp and the bees' buzz

As thoughts fly through my mind.

The oppessive heat

That keeps my body immobile

Has no hold on my mind,

Or my heart,

That flutters like the wings of a humming bird

Just at the very thought of you.

The gentle drifting of a lonely boat

Breaks the placid waters.

The aging wood of the humble vessel

Filled with stories and dreams of past lives

Of afternoon naps,

And pirates who sailed the seven seas

Fighting off bohemoths beyond descripion

Without ever leaving the shore,

Now sits longing for its next passengers and their stories.

My mind finall calms

And joins the clouds.

Not worrying.

Just existing.

The warm pink that stained my cheeks

Is fading along with my thoughts of you.

Drifting away with the clouds,

I hear the wood groan for a companion in the water.

My eyes flutter shut rebelliously

As I give in and lt nature's symphony take me away.
