Simply to Fly and to Lie

Away they drifted

Into a world beyond the sky

Lying through their teeth

As they blind themselves

Searching for some light

When all along

They were surrounded

Raising tattered wings

But no one sees

As they plummet

No one hears

While it tastes like blood

Bared teeth like fangs

Smiling as the wolf growls

As the soul plunges down

As the mind spirals

But what it is

They say it is fine

The bird tries to fly

As its bloodied wing is still

As it crows and trills

The fox hears them

And lets its own lies sink in

Running from something they say

When all they do is look away

Bare the sun they say

When they shudder at the grim

Saying it is nothing to them

When someone's blood is on the ground

It just isn't for them they claim

That they fly alone

Even though they sit in the crowd

Cowering with blank eyes

As they sing everyone's song

Even though everyone sings a differing tune

They lie and whisper they're the same

When they all come so differently

Minds with power

Truth in smiles darkened

Wondering in silence

Afraid to break out

Until one flutters to something else

To a place where the shadow comforts

And the light grows

Right in the center

Sitting where they can hear

Where they can see

They choose to bear it

They wonder if the others can do the same

Because only then can they heal

Only then do they truly fly

When they accept the lies

And search for the truths

When fiction is no longer

All that is reality

But something to build towards it

Only then do they heal

When they work to actually move on

It is all I say

We still do lie

But we can also know

That that is not all there is

Life grows alongside death

And it is all simple to lie

But it will be harder to fly

See the dark and the light

And understand something new

To discover and nod to the old.
