Simply Happy

Each, unique with equal importance
Chin toward the sky, she strides through the halls
Her smile is radiating, she is depicted with no faults
If you knew, you could see the persistent presence of hesitance.

Kind and optimistic; defining words
They both hold truth, but it’s not that simplistic
Dive deeper, become engulfed; observe
See the reality behind her eyes.

The stress and sadness that harbor her face
Beneath, the flower withers; what a disgrace
It curls, abandoned, smashed
Now dubious to grow
Just hoping for a taste of grace
Something to feed into its dimming glow.

Within her boils a memory
Uneasiness when others are too near
The thought of a touch springs upon a small fear
Even the act of a promise; so simple, yet treachery.

Her trust seems easy to catch yet it hides secluded in the dark
She relies on herself, only herself to embark
She is indecisive
Scared to take the wrong turn
Fearing the unknown of tomorrow’s burn.

As each of us are given every day
She is granted a choice
She will not cut the pain away
The seconds tick by
She will not choose the bottle
She will not turn out her own light
Instead
She chooses to smile

Her flower is flourishing
She is bright, careful, considerate, tenacious, impactful
Not one word would be defining
She chooses to be thankful
To accept, not regret
To be the best of her ability
With the absence of greed
The smile marking her face comes on with ease.
