Singes

Location

Fire cackles, shadows dance
along the walls in
a twisted waltz with the smoke
that storms your lungs and ash
that tastes like death on your tongue
your hair and clothes singed off
scraps of cloth, falling to the floor
as your thoughts turn to ash
you choke on the memories swirling
in the soot heavy air
pieces of you lit up in flames
as regrets go down in smoke
dropping to the floor and becoming
criss-crossed with scorch marks
scarred by flames as your heart
turns to ice but does not melt
instead shattering under the weight
of the disaster you’ve created
the things you’ve done
the inferno is laughing
