Singing Myself To Sleep

Singing lullabies

To myself

SInging myself

To sleep

Every night

That was my life

Until you

Now you're rocking me to sleep

Holding me tight

No more nightmares

Visiting me at night

No more

You closed that door

And it just doesn't hurt

Like it always did before

Never looked at myself

And saw bride

Never wanted the world

Of fluff and white

I was content

I was wrong

I was bent

And crooked

With bitter pain

I was the walking dead

Drifting on my misery

Lost in my own head

Couldn't see

What had happened to me

Until you showed me

What I was missing

What I wanted

But never knew how to pray for

Down on a knee

I see

Everything

From start

To end

How you stole this heart

So quickly

How you changed

Every piece of me

You made everything okay

And complete

Half alive

Just in it to survive

No color in these green eyes

You came

And now everything is burning

With color

With life

The life

I never knew I wanted

Filling me up

Until I'm overflowing

Almost too much

Gasping

For breath

I can't find

Wasting so much

Now I have something

That's just mine

My own

No more nightmares

I'm not alone

It's not cold

No more

I never even realized

How dead

These eyes

Really were

Couldn't even feel

How numb I'd become

But it's real

And you're here

You love me

Nothing left to fear

No more tears

I'm not chasing dead ends

My very future

The future

I was too afraid to hope for

In your dark eyes

I'm okay

I'm going to be alright

With you

Beside me every night

I walk

Head high

I'm alright

I'm going to be okay

Tomorrow is another day

And the past

It just can't hurt me anymore

You closed that door

Locked it

And threw away the key

And now look at me

Baby

I don't have to sing

Myself to sleep
