A Single Drop

If a single drop of water
Should fall into the sea...
Would it be gone forever?
Have no identity?

Would it be swallowed up?
No longer to be free-
Consumed by an uncaring mass
In sheer anonymity?

I think not. If you follow
My line of reasoning-
What about another swallow-
As it lift it's voice to sing?

Would the absence of its volume
All unnoticed go?
By a crowd to whom its "noise"?
As they scurry to and fro?

The same applies to you and I.
As we pass through this life...
Would the bedlam be less ugly-
If we withdraw from strife?

"For lack of fuel the fire goes out"
For lack of care, a life.
I'm not a pacifistic fool,
Nor do I dote on strife.

I've quite enough to occupy7
With business of my on-
And so I choose the other man's-
Or maid's to leave alone.

And like graffiti on the wall-
I write my lines of verse,
And trust that when this life I leave
I'll leave it none the worse.
