Siren's song
I was driving down the highway,
a fairly simple task;
the yawning nonchalance of
a single-handed wheel grasp.
As I toggled buttons
for my FM radio,
a melody so striking
beckoned me to slow.
The song itself was pointless,
no words were even there:
yet, something made me halt the toggling,
some unintended care.
However wordless songs may be,
there's one thing that I know:
a gorgeous song lies not in thought,
but in feelings that grow.
Throughout the senseless wailing
of my a capella haze,
I realized I'd been driving far
for hours, maybe days.
Soon, though, I slipped back to peace
inside the harmonized commotion,
no senmblance of humanity
except for raw emotion.
After one more sunset passed
before my deadened eyes,
I came to understand the voice:
a monster in disguise.
At this point, it's worth noting that,
despite my revelation,
I couldn't shake the growing sense of
mounting exaltation.
New colors wrapped around my head,
hues I'd never seen:
ahn and quole and blop and
every shade of joy between.
With each new color, rushing tears
escaped my weary lids,
you see how joy is tiring,
when you don't know why it is?
Fret not, though! My plight is done--
car burned out of fuel and run
straight into the nearest ditch
to find the most combustive fun!
If they found me, just one stitch
could never be enough
immediate deliverance
from station SIREN- 6.1
