Sister
She’s got that itch,
And constant gaping stare.
Every puncture prickles,
From blackened toes
To tattooed freckles,
Just below the jaw.
Fiend, junkie, user, sister.
Pavement for a pillow-top mattress.
Plastic bags for her comforter.
Hair unintentionally dreaded.
Bare feet scrunched,
In mismatched slippers.
Nervously rocking.
But then her bliss,
Swallows her.
No rocking now,
Toes unclench.
A needle with no numbers,
Idles from her neck.
Cigarette smokes itself,
Between colorless lips.
She nods in prayer,
Legs crossed in a lifetime of meditation.
