To A Sister
You know that you're my peanut
Small, and cute, and fair
In your laugh, I hear my own
Anyone else's can't compare.
You know that you're my sunshine
Beautiful, and fun, and bright
Leading the world to happiness
Bringing peace with your light.
I know that you're only seven
Young, and loved, and free
And I wish that I could save you
From this harsh reality.
I know that you are looking
Searching, but never finding
Stuck in the middle of a haystack
The needle still in hiding.
They think they know your story
Every twist, and turn, and fold
The dog-ears on your pages
And memories never told.
They think they can dictate your life
Every path, and step, and breath
Bring you up or down, by snapping fingers
Bring you life or death.
But I am here to tell you
That I've been around the block
And I am here to help you
Whenever you need to talk.
Whenever life gets hard
And the sun seems far away
Sissy will always be there
To tell you it'll be okay.
