Skin

I blame you You are why they lower their expectations Why they say “Hey grrr” instead of “Hey girl” around me Why they assume I’m poor Why they talk down to me If it weren’t for you I wouldn’t have to be this way I wouldn’t have to love fried chicken Or watermelons Or Koolaid I wouldn’t have to act like I’m from the projects Because I’m not I am intelligent I speak proper English And I love what I love Regardless of what you make them think
