Skin

'What is it that disgusts you so much?

Is it my outer layer that you despise?

Or is it my deep dark almond eyes?

Oh how lovely would it be to be considered beautiful.

If only I had skin of butterscotch.

They say that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover.

So, why am I always considered less desireable because of my color ?

Soon I should stand with pride in the light.

It will be my virtue that shines bright.'

I am a black woman, yes.

But I am a dark skinned woman nonetheless.
