The skin I'm in
To myself,
To love my body
To accept the skin I’m in
It’s harder than you think
Social Norms
Expectations
Ideals
Social media
Magazines
What we see on TV
You’ve gotta keep up with it
The trends
What’s in
Knowing what is “beauty”
And what isn’t
Too look in the mirror
To see those red marks on my hips
Those belly rolls and unattractive love handles
No one wants that
You have to lose weight
Be thin
Diets
Exercise
Forget it, how about I just don’t eat?
Starvation
The feeling of hunger kicks in
So then I think “Fuck it, I’m just gonna eat”
My hunger is satisfied
But I’m not
I feel like complete shit
Until the cycle happens all over again
Don’t eat, eat, feel disgusted with myself
No body confidence
Use treatments for the marks
High waisted jeans to hold the rolls in
Make society believe
I’m not THAT fat
To love my body
To accept the skin I’m in
It’s harder than you think
But
I wouldn’t think this way
If society didn’t either
Labels
Judging
That’s NOT what we should promote
Body confidence
Is what we SHOULD encourage
Accept the skin you’re in
Stretch marks, cellulite, belly rolls
They don’t define you
But it’s still an issue
That needs to be undo
Let’s change the norm
Change the perspective
Promote a range of body shapes
Letting people know
Love your body
Be happy with the skin you’re in
So self,
Have confidence, embrace your body
Always love the skin you’re in
