Skin of Snow

Long ago in a land far and wide

A maiden with skin of snow wished for a different life

She waited by a wishing well gently singing of a day

When the one she loves will find her and sweep her away

Oh how love did find her, though surprised was she

When the prince sang to her, “One song, my heart is singing…”

It did not take long for great promises to be exchanged

While the fair maiden unknowingly put her heart in chains

But True Love was not all he seemed

For his one real wish was to someday be king

So when the Evil Queen guaranteed such a thing could be done

Her one condition did not hinder him, not at all.

Dressed to impress with the poison in his hands

What a coincidence to stumble into the fair maiden again

A blood red apple in exchange for true love’s kiss

Into a slumber, she fell without knowing how it all became amiss

Frozen she slept while time went on

The prince became king and the queen was fairest of them all

When one day, seven little men came upon a maiden with skin of snow

And, unable to awaken her, they carried her into their little home

Nothing would stir her, she would not even flinch

They even tried the dirty socks forgotten in the laundry bin

Still, the only movement they could see was the gentle breath in her lungs

And they knew they must acquire after the man everyone called Hunt.

The Huntsman was a man known for his great wisdom and strength

He thrived on a challenge and always seemed to find his own way

So while the little men searched the kingdom, seeking high and low

Word spread quickly and Hunt became curious about the maiden with skin of snow

Through a series of events which led the two companies to unite

On inspection of the fair maiden, Hunt knew something was not right

In search for a diagnosis with the hope of a possible cure

Hunt came to admire the fair maiden as he often read to her

Month by month passed while the fair maiden stayed in a deep slumber

The Evil Queen and former prince lived on happily without a stumble

The Huntsman tried everything, all that he could risk

But it seemed the maiden was doomed to sleep where time ceased to exist

One day, while the Huntsman held the maiden’s hand in his own

He wept over his failure, seeking forgiveness from his maiden of snow

But when Hunt's tear landed on the maiden’s fair skin

A shimmering light surrounded her as something awoke from within

The seven little men watched in great wonder and awe

As the fair maiden opened her eyes and gently yawned

The Huntsman was shocked and amazed at the beauty of such a sight

Whiles the fair maiden searched for the prince who had kissed her goodnight

The Evil Queen and former prince received what they were due

While the fair maiden’s broken heart slowly healed with her friends of new

One can dream in their own way how Hunt became more than such a friend

And with such a tale, presumably, there is always a happy end
