Skymaster

My great-grandpa was the only grandfather I remember very well

Grandpa Jack was a Korean war veteran

He flew aid planes

His favorite plane was the skymaster

He showed be photos of the cessna O-2  skymaster

And I was intrigued

I always thought of it as a giant bird

With two rows of fins and a double engine

And its propellers spinning like a crazy fast ceiling fan

Grandpa Jack loved that plane,

He was the captain of it  January 1951 to March 1953

By 2022 he was the last living man to ever fly #56498

When a British non-profit organization

Began trying to restore Jack’s skymaster to flying condition

Grandpa Jack wanted to go see it in London

To help raise money to fix it

But then he got sick

Grandpa Jack never did get to see the skymaster

He didn’t get to see it because life happens

In ways we can never expect

God has a plan

And a lot of times it's not the one we had in mind

Grandpa Jack’s plan took an unexpected turn

But that is just the way God made the world

I miss him almost every day

And though he wasn’t the most perfect great-grandfather,

He was mine

A young girl chasing a dream that can't be caught, Holding onto hope that is too far gone Losing her mind trying to help others get theirs back Prayers go unanswered no matter what she does It's the life of no one, no one but me
